The International Conference on the Future of Non-Formal and Formal Education, held on June 12-13, 2024, at SOU elektrotechnická in Pilsen, provided a rich platform for teachers, policymakers, and organizations like EdTech Bulgaria to engage in dynamic discussions and workshops. We were represented by Albena Spasova who also presented the Bulgarian efforts in the area of digital well-being policy experimentation.
Here are some key insights and learnings from our participation in this landmark event:
Embracing Gamification in Education
One of the standout sessions was the workshop led by Mgr. Alena Vávrová on integrating games into mathematics education. Vávrová’s approach, which includes using games like Blokus, Ubongo, and Sudoku, has proven to make learning mathematics more engaging and effective for students. This method aligns with EdTech Bulgaria’s philosophy of utilizing interactive and playful methods to enhance learning outcomes. We aim to incorporate similar strategies into our curriculum to foster a more engaging learning environment.
Chemistry and Experiential Learning
The workshop on chemistry education, conducted by Bc. Jakub Štěpánek highlighted the power of experiential learning. Štěpánek’s approach, involving hands-on experiments and science shows, demonstrated that students are more likely to retain complex information when they experience it directly. This session reinforced our commitment to developing more interactive science modules that allow students to learn through doing, which can significantly boost their understanding and retention of scientific concepts.
Focus on Well-being
Mgr. Daniel Pražák’s workshop on well-being at schools emphasized the importance of mental health for both students and teachers. Pražák’s insights into innovative educational practices and the integration of modern technology in teaching provided valuable perspectives on creating a supportive and inspiring educational environment. At EdTech Bulgaria, we are inspired to implement more holistic well-being programs that support our teachers and students, ensuring a positive and productive educational experience.
Media Literacy and Critical Thinking
The media literacy workshop led by Tereza Povolná and Dominik Duffek was particularly pertinent in today’s digital age. Their insights into navigating the complexities of media, understanding fake news, and fostering critical thinking skills are crucial for students. We plan to integrate comprehensive media literacy programs into our curriculum, helping students become more discerning consumers of information and better prepared for the challenges of the digital world.
Generation Z and Future Learning
The session by Hana Dux Blažková on understanding Generation Z offered profound insights into the unique characteristics and learning preferences of this generation. Blažková’s emphasis on the importance of catering to the curiosity and resilience of Gen Z resonated deeply with our educational goals. EdTech Bulgaria is committed to developing personalized learning experiences that align with the values and expectations of today’s learners, preparing them for future educational and professional success.
Exploring New Educational Opportunities with Technology
Doc. Ing. Milan Edl’s presentation on the role of new technologies in education was a highlight, offering a glimpse into the future of learning environments enhanced by AI, robotics, and digital transformation. EdTech Bulgaria is excited to explore these technological advancements further and integrate them into our educational frameworks, ensuring our students are adept at navigating and leveraging future technological landscapes.
The conference’s panel discussions and workshops provided a wealth of knowledge and inspiration. The emphasis on innovative teaching methods, the integration of technology, and the holistic development of students aligns perfectly with Ed Tech Bulgaria’s mission to revolutionize education. We are enthusiastic about implementing these insights to enhance our educational practices, fostering a more dynamic, engaging, and effective learning environment for our students.
Participating in the Pilsen conference has been a transformative experience, equipping us with new strategies and ideas to push the boundaries of education in Bulgaria. We look forward to continued collaboration with international peers to share knowledge and best practices, driving forward the future of education together.
