Technology Is There. What’s Missing?

Kamelia Slaveykova, Chair of the Board of Directors of Shell Bulgaria, featured in the new “Inside View” section

“Technology is available, but the main deficit remains the lack of a systematic connection between it, education, and the real-world environment,” said Kamelia Slaveykova, Chair of the Board of Directors of Shell Bulgaria, in an interview for our new “Inside View” section. In it, we present our community—the people and organizations behind EdTech Bulgaria—through their ideas, experience, and perspectives on education and technology. Shell Bulgaria is a member of EdTech Bulgaria.

According to her, technology is a natural part of modern learning: “For today’s young generation… it is entirely natural for technology to be an organic part of the educational process.” She emphasized that this includes not only digital content, but also “simulations, automation, working with real data, artificial intelligence.”

Despite progress, “in many cases, digital tools simply replicate the traditional model of teaching.” In her view, the key is “not simply more technology, but more meaningful integration.”

Slaveykova also highlighted the potential of Bulgarian students: “Bulgarian teams consistently perform exceptionally well” in initiatives such as Shell Eco-marathon. However, “EdTech solutions rarely reach widespread application,” and the connection with industry remains limited. A key factor for the development of EdTech and the integration of technology in education is “collaboration between business and education.”

According to her, “the future of education will be less focused on memorization and more on solving real-world problems,” with “technology playing a key but supporting role.”
