New Educational Materials and Guides for Digital Wellbeing Developed Under the TechWell Project

The role of technology in education continues to grow, but so do the challenges associated with it, including digital addiction and cybersecurity risks. In response to these challenges, the TechWell project consortium, funded under the Erasmus+ programme, has developed a comprehensive set of educational materials and practical guides designed for teachers, school leaders, students and parents.

The resources aim to improve understanding of digital wellbeing and encourage the integration of the concept into educational environments. They provide practical guidance, suggested classroom activities and age-appropriate content focused on building healthier and more balanced relationships with digital technologies.

The materials focus on topics such as:

  • responsible use of technology;
  • conscious screen time management;
  • online safety;
  • mental health and wellbeing;
  • development of critical digital skills.

The materials have been published in six languages on the project website — English, Bulgarian, Czech, Greek, Hungarian and Italian — and will be available to stakeholders across the educational systems in Bulgaria, Czechia, Greece, Hungary, Ireland and Italy.

Platform with Training Materials for Teachers

The structure of the materials is intuitive and based on the competence levels of the European DigCompEdu framework. It covers all levels — from A1 (Newcomer), which provides a basic understanding of digital wellbeing, through the intermediate levels A2 (Explorer), B1 (Integrator), B2 (Expert) and C1 (Leader), up to C2 (Pioneer), which focuses on exploring new approaches and innovative strategies to support students in the learning process.

For each level, specific educational materials and guides have been developed, including introductory videos and classroom-ready resources.

Among the practical resources already developed are:

  • tools for building healthy online habits and recognising emotions;
  • family digital detox plans;
  • materials for addressing digital fatigue, an online glossary on digital empathy and mental health guidance;
  • topics related to ethical dilemmas and artificial intelligence in the digital world.

Specialised Guides for Parents and School Leaders

To extend the project’s impact beyond the classroom and create a comprehensive supportive environment, two key downloadable guides have also been developed.

The “Guide for Parents” was created to support schools’ efforts and encourage shared reflection on digital habits at home. Its purpose is to ensure consistency in promoting digital wellbeing, as mixed messages between schools and families can easily undermine teachers’ work.

The “Guide for School Directors” provides practical guidance and tools for school leaders who wish to develop and implement concrete and effective digital wellbeing policies in their schools. The implementation of such policies is considered essential for creating educational environments in which digital education can truly thrive.

The multilingual approach is one of the project’s core principles, as it enables the creation of accessible and practical tools that can be adapted to different educational systems and cultural contexts.

The educational materials are now freely available through the TechWell website and will play a central role in the upcoming pilot phase of the project in schools.

Teachers, school leaders and education professionals are invited to explore the materials and discover new ways to support students’ digital wellbeing.

The TechWell project aims to promote digital wellbeing in schools through the development of holistic strategies and the application of a human-centred approach to digital transformation in education.
