“By creating functionally illiterate future generations, we are condemning the state itself.” This was stated by Konstantin Veselinov, founder and manager of CENTIO #Cybersecurity, in a discussion about the role of technology and AI in Bulgarian education.

According to Veselinov, technology has already removed many of the barriers to learning, making knowledge accessible “just one click away.” This is changing not only how students learn, but also the role of teachers.

“Teachers are no longer simply a source of information, but the people who help students understand it, connect it, and apply it in a real-world context,” he said.

However, Veselinov emphasized that technology alone does not improve education. What matters is how it is used — whether it becomes “just another screen filled with PDFs” or a tool that genuinely helps students understand, think, and apply knowledge. He believes the focus in education must shift from memorization toward critical thinking and practical application. “In today’s world, the most valuable skills are ‘how you think’ and ‘how you apply,’ not simply ‘what you know,’” he added.

According to Veselinov, Bulgaria is moving in the right direction regarding educational technology, but the pace remains too slow compared to global competition.

According to him, the future of education will become far more practical, adaptive, and connected to the real world, while AI will evolve into a natural assistant for both students and teachers.
